Born on August 3rd, 1984 in St. Paul Minnesota, Amber Michelle Russell is a self taught artist and curator that specializes in emotionally captivating paintings and extremely realistic graphite drawings. Amber feeds her obsession for fine detail through graphite, while painting disturbingly haunting images as a personal outlet.  Amber has showcased her work throughout the United States in selected group exhibitions and galleries. She currently resides in Wisconsin and continues to emerge and grab the attention of viewers internationally.

                                                                       ARTIST STATEMENT

I create emotionally captivating visceral subject matter. My artwork usually depicts a female figure in an emotionally vulnerable state. My work is an extension of myself. I chose to express these feelings artistically at different points in my life.

I decide what message I want to convey when I first start an art piece. I try to connect with viewers by telling a story that sparks certain emotions we can all relate to. I focus on humanistic flaws and imperfections. I use fine detail and bright colors to grab initial attention.

I explore the inner unpleasant depth that we each carry inside ourselves. Each body of work is a personal reflection of myself. I’m currently exploring a multitude of mediums; including painting, sculpture and fine detailed drawings.

I continue to strike a nerve with my audience. I hope viewers can relate to the nature of my work by connecting to the negative energy that we all possess.
